Networks That Can Be Used To Monetize Tumblr

Now it’s time for the fun part! We finally get to make some profits off our Tumblr efforts. There are many ways to make money off the Tumblr platform. These methods range from display advertisements to pop-unders and affiliate programs. with new and innovative ad networks starting up all the time, the possibilities are great, and hopefully there will be more opportunities in the near future.

Display Advertisements

Display ads are probably the easiest and most common method to making money off NSFW Tumblr. Not all display ads are allowed though. Tumblr’s relationship with various adult ad networks has changed over the time.

MY personal preference is EroAdvertising. They’ve got the lowest minimum payout of the bunch and offer several other methods of monetizing Tumblr blogs which will be mentioned below.

Pop-Ads

Pop-ups and pop-unders are great for making easy money off Tumblr. Unlike the ads, pop-unders trigger automatically and don’t require clicks. This is an easy way to make money off every visitor.

List of Tumblr Safe Pop-Ads

As you can see, there are two ad networks that offer both pop-ads and display ads. For this reason, it might be more practical to leverage one of those networks. This allows for faster payments, as you’re not waiting for minimum payouts from two different networks.

CrakRevenue is an affiliate network, but they offer some great programs with some high converting offers. They offer what’s known as “Pay Per Lead” (PPL) that pays between $1-$3 per signup for free accounts across various networks. They offer pop-under scripts and some amazing flash banners.

PornEarn is a new linksharing ad network specifically for adult content. In addition to their URL-shortening ads, they also offer pop-ups. This makes them one of the more innovative of the URL-shortening ad solutions.

Link-Sharing Ads

There are a number of link-sharing ad networks supporting adult content. These networks will display an advertisement along with the website content. It’s possible to monetize a Tumblr blog using these networks in several ways. The most common method is to shrink the link to your Tumblr blog. Use this as the click-through link on all your images. When users click on the image, they’ll be taken to your blog and you’ll make money off the click. A double win.

I would recommend PornEarn. This is because if you ever want to use them for pop-ads as well, you’re not splitting profits between multiple networks. PornEarn is also more flexible as far as ad types and has a lower minimum payout.

Instant Message Chat Box

Instant message ads are those chat boxes that appear in the corner of the screen. The nice thing about these ads is the possibility of accidental clicks. Most of these ads have an x on them to close them. The x is small and it’s easy to click on the ad instead.

Not that much competition in this category.

In-Text Ads (Highlighted Words)

You know those ads that look like links? You hover your mouse over them and an ad will appear? There is one ad network that I know of that will provide In-text ads that support adult content. That network is EroAdvertising. This is why it’s my favorite network for Tumblr monetization. It provides so many flexible ad types that allow you to squeeze every dollar out of a Tumblr blog.

Affiliate Programs

This requires a little more thought and skill than display ads, but can be really profitable. Affiliate programs differ from ad networks in a sense that you are partnering with the company directly. Most affiliate programs pay out a revenue-share or very generous pay-per-signup. Some might also offer pay-per-lead (PPL) which we discussed earlier.

With affiliate marketing, you are assigned a tracking link for each website being promoted. Users need to click on your link and signup in order to get paid. When done right, affiliate marketing can be very profitable. When it’s done wrong, you won’t make a single dime!

Referral Traffic

Tumblr can play a larger role in the adult internet monetization niche. Aside from being a platform that can be directly monetized, as it’s been discussed here, Tumblr also has the ability to refer traffic to other websites and properties.

If you’ve read my section on automating NSFW Tumblr blogs, then you know WordPress gallery / picture sites can play a huge role in Tumblr automation. In return, Tumblr can play a valuable part in referring traffic back to the WordPress site. This is especially true if you’re using Nextscripts and have control over the image click-through link.

A website can be monetized using all the methods shown here. On-top of that, it opens up the doors to many more ad networks and ad types not allowed by Tumblr. You’ve got complete control and freedom of your own site. I feel that it is definitely best to find some method of integrating Tumblr into the social media marketing of any picture / gallery sites. It’s possible to find a method of making both the web and Tumblr support themselves and enable the monetization of both platforms.

Adding Advertisements To Tumblr Blog

Adding the display ads or other codes to a Tumblr blog is easy. This is all done on the blog editing screen. The same area you select your theme and other options.

Adding display adsAdd Display Ads to Tumblr

To add display ads, you’ll have to copy/paste the ad code into the description part of the blog. The description will appear on a sidebar or the blogs header, depending on the theme.

It’s important to make sure the ad type you’ve set up works with the selected theme. For example, a leaderboard would be required for a theme where the description is across the header. A skyscraper ad would work better for a sidebar theme.

Adding pop-unders / other scripts

Most pop-unders and other scripts will require you to place them in the <head> of the HTML. Some scripts can be placed in the <body> in which case, they’d be added to the description along with the display ad code.

To access the HTML file, click “Edit HTML” on that same menu.

The above screenshot shows exactly where to add the code. Just copy and paste it right after the <head> tag. I promise that’s the only “technical coding” you’ll have to do in this whole money-making process.
