Building Up Following For NSFW Tumblr Blog

Build Following For Adult NSFW

Now that you’ve created a NSFW Tumblr blog, and acquired the content to post it’;s time to start ramping up the following. It might seem intimidating starting with zero followers and zero content, but the blog will ramp up fast enough.

Appearing In Tag Search

Most Tumblr blog posts don’t appear in tag search right off the bat. This is to prevent spammer autoblogs. Getting the blog to appear in tag search is the first priority. Usually this is just a matter of time. It might take a single day, or several. I feel that it helps to do things that a natural user would do. Go out and follow some blogs in the same niche as you.

Like and reblog some posts within your blogs niche. Try to go for the ones with little or no notes. Every time you like or reblog something, the Tumblr user will appear below the post. If there’s many notes, you’ll be hard to notice. If you’re the only person, you’ll be the only one listed. With any luck, you’ll get some clicks and followers off those links alone.

Make some posts of your own and set the image click-through link to your own Tumblr account. Use some relevant but obscure tags that few people have used. This makes it easier to figure out when your posts actually start appearing in tag search. Using tags like #NSFW or #sexy are very competitive. However #sexyblondegirl probably isn’t. [Note: just did a tag search and there is only one image for that tag, making it a perfect example.] By using a tag such as that, you can audit the particular tag until an image finally appears.

Once your content will appear in tag search, it’s on!

As you can see from the screenshot above, when people search within Tumblr without the hashtag, it’ll display a combination of posts and users to follow. There’s even a handy follow button right there on the list of accounts.

With any luck, it’s possible that your Tumblr account could appear there for searches in your particular niche. The more targeted and “sub-niche” your Tumblr blog is, the more likely to have it appear here.

Start Posting Lots of Pics – But Not Out of Control!

It’s a very simple concept; More content, more times you’ll appear in search. The more times you appear in search, the more exposure for your blog. The more exposure, the more followers. The more followers, the more reblogs. The more reblogs, the more followers.

Manual posting is preferred for the first initial stage. It also allows you to set the click-through image for pics to the Tumblr blog. This really helps to increase the number of followers. Later down the road, it may make more sense to set the click-through to various other websites you control. That’s up to you.

Pick Niche / “Longtail” Tags

Remember the #sexyblondegirl example up above? It’s easier to stand out in the crowd when using niche hashtags. That example is way too niche, but #sexyblonde would be a whole lot less competitive than both “#sexy” and “#blonde” which are heavily used hashtags in the NSFW Tumblr community.

You’ll want to balance the mainstream hashtags with the niche ones. The mainstream tags get more raw views, but the niche ones might also have a lifetime value, especially if you’re the only one really using them. This is another reason manual posting might be preferred over automation for newer Tumblr blogs.

Use Other Networks To Drive Traffic

Tumblr isn’t the only means to driving traffic and followers to your blog. There are many other methods of promoting your new blog. Many of them can be automated as well!

Porn Pinning Sites – There are many porn pinning sites similar to Pinterest. You can even use Pinterest to drive traffic, as long as it’s non-nude content. It’s possible to automate Sex.com through RSS. Every Tumblr blog produces an RSS feed. This makes it possible to automatically post every new Tumblr pic to sex.com, complete with tags and description.

Twitter – Twitter can be automated through IFTTT or directly through Tumblr. Twitter allows for NSFW content, but you may not want to use your personal Twitter handle for promoting the porn site.

Forums – There are many forums and message boards for adult content. These places are incredibly active. It’s possible to use these to drive traffic and followers. Just Googling “NSFW Tumblr forum” will bring up a bunch of single posts over multiple forums. Many of these are posts for sharing adult Tumblr blogs.
